Hi, I’m Serhan Baydı. I’m a Digital Product Designer with over 5 years of experience. I’ve designed more than 50 mobile apps in areas like finance, social media, productivity and education.

In this guide, I’ll share what I’ve learned about creating paywall screens that convert. Clear, user-friendly, and built to generate real revenue.

Let’s get started. 🚀

The success of a mobile app often comes down to the user’s first experience. Studies show that a good onboarding flow can boost retention rates by up to 50%.

Users want to quickly understand what your app does, how it works, and why it’s valuable. Onboarding screens are your chance to make a strong first impression.

So how do you design an onboarding experience that builds trust, reduces confusion, and sets your app up for long-term success?

In this guide, we’ll break down the must-haves of onboarding screens, share great examples, and offer practical tips you can use right away.

Make Your Value Clear

The first screen of your onboarding flow should clearly show the main benefit your app offers. Users should be able to answer “What’s in it for me?” within just a few seconds.

How to do it:

Use a short, punchy, and benefit-focused message. For example, a language learning app could say: “Learn English in just 5 minutes a day!” Focus on outcomes instead of features. Say things like “Save time” or “Stay organized.”

Pro Tip: Stick to one clear message on the first screen and support it with visuals. Avoid overwhelming users with too much info.

Mozi’s onboarding screen is a great example of how to clearly show a value proposition.

The line “See where you overlap with friends” instantly tells users what the app is about. It’s all about discovering common ground with friends.

Plus, the hug visual helps bring that idea to life in a visual way.
